Genre: Folk (Folkgrass)
Hometown: Northampton, Massachusetts
Brothers Andrew and Len shared a love of traditional oldtime and bluegrass music and decided to take up the clawhammer banjo and mandolin, respectively, in early 2001. Taking instruction from Diane Sanabria, Banjo Queen of the Pioneer Valley, Andrew honed his clawhammer skills in the style of the late Tommy Thompson. Meanwhile, Len was perfecting his chops under the tutalage of Michael Daves. Then one late Spring evening in 2002 at the famed Iron Horse Music Hall, Andrew and Len were blown away when "Old Crow Medicine Show" took to the stage to open for The Tarbox Ramblers. Andrew and Len knew right then and there they wanted to play in an Oldtime band. Len moved to Tennessee and continued his musical studies at the University of Tennessee in their Bluegrass program. Meanwhile, back in Massachusetts, Andrew kept pickin' the banjo and raising a ruckus with local musicians. Len moved back to Massachusetts in late 2004 and he and Andrew began playing together on a weekly basis. Then in early 2005, Andrew and Len were introduced to guitarist Jared Libby through a mutual friend. Jared's Grateful Dead and jazz influenced folk guitar backed up by a degree in music from Hampshire College and 12 years of playing experience made him the perfect fit. The trio has been playing together ever since, and began gigging in the Summer of 2005, often joined by special guests on various instruments. They perform regularly at local venues and have been well received by their audiences. They look forward to recording their first c.d. and their first regional tour in 2006.
